Arthur Farnsworth was proposed for deletion. This page is an archive of the discussion about the proposed deletion. This page is no longer live. Further comments should be made on the article's talk page rather than here so that this page is preserved as an historic record. The result of the debate was to keep the article.
Delete, if not then expand -- Right now it's apparent the article was created by an anti-libertarian and only seems to only cover the fact that this guy is a tax evader and is a libertarian. Do all tax evaders deserve a page on wikipedia? If the article stays I think it needs to at least be expanded to include more info about him and actually include details from the PALP rebuttal at http://mail.lppa.org/pipermail/discussion_lppa.org/2004-November/001705.html
- Comment. This VfD submission was by Chuck F, who forgot to sign his listing. He seems to be involved in an edit war with Reithy over liberalism. See also: Wikipedia talk:Requests for arbitration/Reithy. No vote yet, but my preliminary impression is that the topic here is a somewhat notable politician/protester and this is a very close of being a frivolous listing in VfD used to support submitter's POV. jni 08:23, 8 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- how is it frivalous? I said if it's not deleted it deftianly needs to be expanded... aka I don't Think The fact Alone That you don't pay your taxes makes you enclyopdiac, this guy hasn't done anything at all in the national lp, and the PA LP really isn't that big of an organization Chuck F 10:33, 8 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Delete: I'll take a stand. People who run for office get pages, if they're candidates for notable office and represent a major faction. People who get arrested get pages, if they're convicted of something significant and of larger than local import. So, the claim here is he is going to run for Congress for the Libertarian Party. They've never had much of a chance at a Congressional seat anywhere in the US, and there is no reason to believe that a blue state is going to be the first. He got arrested for tax evasion. Is he one of the big wheels in the "you don't have to pay taxes" movement? Not that I've heard of -- a follower, not a leader. Thus, not notable. Geogre 14:47, 8 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Weak keep. Geogre's analysis is right on spot, as usually, but raises one more question: Is he a major name in his own faction? If yes, I would say that makes him notable in itself if the party/faction he represents is encyclopedia material. I don't know much about American politics, but I guess ~4000 votes makes him borderline notable. jni 17:40, 8 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Possibly so, I admit. I don't know much about the inside of the Libertarian Party, and I have a feeling that the nomination is a sign of some rift...don't know, and I don't know where to seek an impartial view of the big Libertarians, either, to verify. Geogre 04:39, 9 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Abstain. Not sure if he's notable enough to merit an article. If he were, I don't see any problem with the tax evasion info staying in -- remember that the Billy Graham article has mention of his anti-semitic side, that being a major controversy (alas, not major enough) in his political stature. As usual, willing to be swayed by argument. --Improv 21:14, 9 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Keep. Only because I've heard of him before, even though I don't keep up with libertarian anything. The political junkie in me says we should keep it. Plus if the original nominator already knows of a way to make it worthwhile to keep around, why don't we just do that? - Lifefeed 21:30, Nov 10, 2004 (UTC)
- Keep. He's the kind of person a poster at a political forum could drop a reference to by name, without explaining who he is, and expect everyone else on the forum to either know who he is or do some research and be able to find out who he is. Wiwaxia 04:51, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC)
