As Aristotle stated, tragedy contains incidents arousing pity and fear where with to accomplish its catharsis of such emotions. Hedda Gabler shows us complex relationships between Lovborg, Mr. Tesman and her. Since Thea Elvsted had written two books for Lovborg. Hedda's complex feelings about the relationship between Thea and Lovborg stimulate the action of the play. Because she burned Lovborg and Thea’s “baby” due to her jealousy. And the reason that Hedda tried to encourage Lovborg to suicide was that she wanted Mr. Tesman, who was her husband, but she did not love to succeed in the nomination of doctor. Thus the ironic jealousy was the burden and unwilling anguish of Hedda Gabler. While the catharsis shows much clear in Antigone- the law of city or the law of morality. It provided a strong confliction of individual versus the state, higher law versus a ruler's decrees. In this case of Antigone versus the state, she chose to follow moral law. Antigone based her decisions solely on her beliefs that she felt within her heart. She followed through with her actions, prepared to face the consequences, knowing what they would be. This shows that Antigone was courageous and passionate in her beliefs. She felt that the law of the land was unjust and she couldn't let the soul of her brother suffer because of injustice. Antigone in that play was but a trigger and catalyst. She was not the tragic hero of the play. Nonetheless Creon is the representation of all humanity and his misfortunes were brought about through hubris, which eventually leads to unhappiness, demise, and destruction.
