Make cable provider/channel number collapsable by country or continent?

[edit]

The cable provider and channel list is getting kinda long as more and more countries get cable TV is there a way to make a collapsable list by country? So like "United States" may have within "DirecTV, Dish Network, Fios, Time Warner, Cox, etc." U.K. might have "Sky, etc., etc.... ", Canada "Rogers, Bell, Shaw, etc., etc." CaribDigita (talk) 00:52, 22 April 2013‎ (UTC)[reply]

If not by country perhaps why not by continent? Africa, Americas , Asia, Europe, Oceania?

sister_channels

[edit]

Outside a few entities with only a few channels they're sisters with (Hallmark Channel), this field now seems very pointless with corporate templates doing the legwork, and is now being abused by our regular vandals to make us think a reader somehow needs to care that CBS is owned by the same company that owns approximately 814 other networks, including Ego, a one-paragraph article which is just a PR logline of what 4 show reruns it carries followed by an absurdly long infobox of other one-paragraph PR logline network articles which are just themselves barely watched, with Paramount Global and WBD articles beyond the worst-polluted. I feel like it needs to be discussed. @BilCat 14:44, 28 August 2023 (UTC) Nate (chatter) 14:44, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Honestly I don't even know if Ego is an existing television network (can't find sources easily for it because of the word and it's a Hebrew network so with lack of proficiency in reading it, I can't really do so), so they're crufting up what may be a long-defunct channel. Disable embed_header

[edit]

As title; the infobox I want to embed already has a title that I can't disable, and it seems uncommon to have a header for child infoboxes specified in the parent toobigtokale (talk) 00:37, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Toobigtokale Which article is this? Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 07:05, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Example: Korean News. If I put in Template:Infobox Korean name under embedded I don't really need the header. toobigtokale (talk) 13:07, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Toobigtokale That article is about a TV program and should have {{Infobox television}}. I just edited that template to allow it to accept embeds. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 00:49, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oops, my mistake, thank you! toobigtokale (talk) 02:19, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Owner vs. parent

[edit]

Is there a discussion or precedent somewhere indicating what the "owner" and "parent" fields should be used for? In my mind, "parent" should refer to the ultimate parent company of a property, and "owner" should refer to a subsidiary or licensee underneath that parent company, but I've frequently seen the opposite, and in some cases I've seen it switched. The documentation seems to be silent on this so I would appreciate any pointers on this. — stickguy (:^›)— || talk || 18:57, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Stickguy I'm not quite sure myself. I think the idea was that in some cases there might be a domestic subsidiary (e.g. Disney Star). It was added to Infobox broadcasting network here in 2010 and to this template upon the 2020 overhaul, which incorporated the former's templates so that transclusions could be converted. Is it worth getting rid of? It's in use in 509 transclusions compared to 5557 for owner. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 22:44, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
