Name
[edit]"Bureau of International Expositions" seems to not be quite correct; it should be "International Bureau of Expositions".
S.
On their website, they refer to themselves (in English) as "International Expositions Bureau". --Speedeep 21:10, Aug 16, 2004 (UTC)
cleanup
[edit]I edited a lot of this for grammar and style, but it still seems to be a rather poor article. Why is it concerened so much with who builds the buildings? There must be many other things about this bureau that should be mentioned besides one detail of the content of its protocols. Folding Chair 01:32, 12 January 2006 (UTC)
Exhibition...
[edit]It's the International Exhibitions Bureau, not exposition. BIE Paris Hakluyt bean 20:59, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
See italian version
[edit]If this seems too poor for you, you can watch the italian version of the arcticle. Me and my friends there spent a lot of time on the classification of the Expos and on doing the members resume. Feel free to pick ideas from there.
- Indented line
- Do the Italians know better? ... I went to the Italian version because I can hardly believe a (correctly cited) member country of Great Britain on the English page. And I see that the Italian one has 'Regno Unito' (not cited, but I could have missed reading an unfamiliar language). Both the English and French language variants of the offical BIE site say Great Britain, but GB doesn't seem to fit the 1928 criteria for membership. And it's always the UK who present at expos. So, is there a citation for the Italian list that could justify shufling it around?Icarusgeek (talk) 11:02, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

Re: Expositions and Exhibitions Terminology
[edit]These two terms are used interchangeably these days, with one being the French translation for the other. (i.e. Bureau de Interational Expositions in French, and Bureau of International Exhibitions in English).
However, with the Montreal Expo '67, they decided to use the French term Exposition, or shortened form 'Expo' to describe the 'Exhibition' in English.
Even though the BIE officially calls itself the Bureau of International Exhibitions in English, it is really popularly known as the Bureau of International Expositions. Foundationexpo88 (talk) 12:54, 26 July 2008 (UTC)Foundationexpo88
Name of the BIE from the Convention relating to International Exhibitions
[edit]I suggest that this article's name is changed from Bureau of International Expositions to International Exhibitions Bureau.
As Hakluyt bean mentioned, the BIE refers to itself in English as International Exhibitions Bureau in its web page. However, there's a more formal explanation of why this is the correct name of this international organization in English.
As many of you might already know, the BIE was created by the Convention relating to International Exhibitions (1928). This is an international treaty currently ratified by 154 sovereign states.
Article 25 of the English version of the Convention (downloadable in PDF format from http://www.bie-paris.org/main/index.php?p=5&m2=24), creates the International Exhibitions Bureau under that specific name. Further references to this international organization in the Convention use the same name. There are no references in the Convention of terms such as Bureau of International Expositions, Bureau of International Exhibitions or International Expositions Bureau.
Then, if the BIE refers to itself as International Exhibitions Bureau, both formally and informally, I see no reason to keep using other names.

Potential move
[edit]Why is this article not under the name International Exhibitions Bureau? More than once it's been noted here that that's the correct name, and the article says so. Normally I'd just move it, but International Exhibitions Bureau exists and redirects to this article. — ACupOfCoffee@ 02:48, 15 May 2014 (UTC)

Split proposal Expo Mascots
[edit]I have just proposed that the Expo Mascots section be split into a new article called Mascots of international expositions becasue it seems that the link from BIE to mascots is a bit indirect (via a recognised fair, rather than directly by BIE), and not necessarily where people would look for info. And having a seprate page allows population of information about not worthy of an independent article without swamping the BIE page.
Any thoughts?
