Dear UK experts: This abandoned AfC submission will soon be deleted as a stale draft. Is this a notable topic, and should the page be kept and improved instead? —Anne Delong (talk)
Editathon at the University of Exeter on 11 September 2024
[edit]Hello everyone, there is an upcoming event that folks interested in Devon history are welcome to attend. It is part of an ongoing collaboration between Wikimedia UK and GLAM-E Lab, an initiative to help galleries, libraries, archives, and museums learn how to share content under an open licence.
The editathon will be held at the University of Exeter's Digital Humanities Lab.
There will be an aspect of training for new editors, so it's a chance to introduce a friend to Wikipedia editing. Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 09:02, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
Call for Lightning Talks at WMUK Community Celebration 2024
[edit]Hello everyone, Save the date for your calendar! On Saturday 23rd November, 11am - 1pm, WMUK will be holding the Wikimedia UK 2024 Community Celebration. We’re aiming for this online event to be a celebration of what our community has achieved in the last year and an opportunity to showcase some of the incredible work on Wiki projects that has been taking place across the UK.
At the event, we’d like to showcase work that community members have been doing over the last while through a set of lightning talks. We’d really like to hear about that which we, or other community members might not have heard about. It’s often the case that there’s a huge amount of work done by Wikimedians that others just don’t see. So this is an invitation to tell us about what you’ve been doing in a short presentation - strictly 5 minutes or less.
Have you done interesting things with a dataset on Wikidata? Maybe you’ve finally managed to track down a source to fix that article you’ve had your eye on for the last two months? Did your work on a Wikipedia article lead you to discover a really interesting story? Did you manage to get an openly licensed image that’s transformed an article? … and crucially, would you like to share your story? If you’d like to present something, please email me at rupal.karia@wikimedia.org.uk to have a chat. Rupal Karia WMUK (talk) 13:46, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
