Capri
[edit]Is Capri really "well known as the most beautiful island in the world"? TigerShark 00:48, 16 May 2005 (UTC)
- agreed, removing this line UkPaolo 16:11, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)
It certainly is. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.152.136.101 (talk) 18:21, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
Why is this at Sorrento, Italy?
[edit]Instead of just Sorrento? Do any of the other Sorrentos in this world really compare? Srnec 00:11, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
Sorrento apartments
[edit]I would like to propose an external link for the Sorrento article. it's a website showcasing various Sorrento apartments and vacation rentals : http://www.stayrentals.com/sorrento-apartments.html
Requested move
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
The Italian Sorrento is not only the original Sorrento, it is the Sorrento with the most real significance historically and after which all others are named. No others are more influential cities today, either. Therefore, while the others pages can remain at their disambiguated locations, this page ought to be moved to Sorrento. I have already created a Sorrento (disambiguation) page. (Finally, not how many pages meaning to link to the Italian city link to the current dab page?) Srnec 22:02, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose because (1) this is not only a place name but also a U.S. company name and (2) there appears to be a widespread propensity for articles that aren't associated with the city in Italy to link "Sorrento" without any disambiguating information. Note: I'm confused by the existence of two Sorrento disambiguation pages (Sorrento and Sorrento (disambiguation); I have added 4 additional uses of "Sorrento" to the first of these). Keep Sorrento as a disambiguation page.--orlady 22:58, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
- I don't understand point (2). In fact, there is a widespread propensity for articles that are associated with the city in Italy to link "Sorrento" without any disambiguating information, but not comparable propensity for any other places or things so-named to link so ambiguously. This is because the Italian city is the first Sorrent and for most of history the only one too. Only a few Americans would associate it with a cheese first. Srnec 20:59, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
- Look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Whatlinkshere/Sorrento -- it is mostly Australians who seem to have a propensity to link to Sorrento. There are at least two places in Australia called "Sorrento"... orlady 21:08, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
- I know where to look. I counted 11 out of 81 for a place in Australia. Almost every single other one was for the Italian town. Srnec 21:21, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

- Oppose I also first think of the Cheese and I'm amazed we don't have an article on it. Considering the girth of other uses, it's best to keep it at one disambiguation. 205.157.110.11 13:37, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
- There is an article about the cheese company. See Sorrento Lactalis (I added it to Sorrento but not Sorrento (disambiguation)). --orlady 15:35, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
- Support Move, all the other places actually called just Sorrento are in fact tiny, with populations under 2,000. The Italian Sorrento is hugely well known for historical and touristic reasons, & easily deserves the straight title. But there should be a disam link at the top, obviously. If Australians link to just Sorrento, it's only one extra click... Johnbod 01:04, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
- Support move, definitely Italian Sorrento is the most important entry with the name, if considered it from an international point of view (nobody outside anglo-Saxon countries knows the other, I seem). --Attilios 09:47, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Oranges and Lemons
[edit]Where does the author get off saying lemons and oranges hadn't been introduced to Italy in classical antiquity? Lemon, orange and citrus trees appear in murals throughout Pompeii and Rome, such as at the House of Livia as gallinas albas, and at the House of the Fruit Orchard. It's just patent nonsense. Can someone who is better than I at this remove that part - it wouldn't detract from the statement on wine - but there's no point and it's misleading to say those citrus cultivars didn't exist because they certainly did. See: Jahemsky & Meyer: The Natural History of Pompeii (Cambridge University Press), 102. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:585:c001:c110:e85a:fc3c:8f9a:82f3 (talk) 04:40, 21 September 2015 (UTC)
