Career

[edit]

The "Career" section begins with Hollywood. Everything before that - vaudeville and Broadway - is under "Early Life." The lead, too, only mentions movies and TV specifically. All that should be under "Career." Groucho was 39 when he made his first movie, and had already been in show business for 24 years. That's longer than the Marx Brothers entire film career. I'm going to move that information to "Career." Carlo (talk) 03:21, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

late night TV

[edit]

I'm watching the PBS show about Dick Cavett and Groucho and a lot of the things that today's late night TV hosts do, like Colbert and Kimmel, do, these things are copied straight from Groucho (who no doubt copied them in teh 1920s from burlesque and variety shows) eg that thing Kimmel does with an Hispanic guy who is nominally part of the crew ? Groucho was doing the same schtick on cavett, in 1969 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:197:D00:3CA0:A181:CDB6:5351:A14D (talk) 02:05, 15 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Bud Cort

[edit]

Why was all info about Bud Cort removed in most recent revision? It seems significant/relevant. There was no edit summary. Dudearoni (talk) 19:17, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Bud Cort was not present when Groucho died, nor did he "live with" Groucho for nine years. Cort was an acquaintance of Erin Fleming, Groucho's companion and "manager" and while he was an off and on guest in Groucho's home in the mid 1970s, he didn't "live with" him and his combined time in Groucho's home was at most, likely a matter of months, not years.
The only people present in the hospital room at the time of Groucho's death were his son Arthur Marx, Arthur's wife, Lois and Groucho's grandson, Andy Marx.
This was told to me personally by Steve Stoliar, Groucho's secretary and archivist and confirmed by Andy Marx. 73.37.61.57 (talk) 06:24, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I should add that Mr. Stoliar has stated that Mr. Cort was prone to exaggerating his "friendship" with Groucho for whatever reasons and he was most definitely a friend or acquaintance of Erin Fleming, Groucho's controversial companion and not Groucho, himself. 73.37.61.57 (talk) 06:34, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As it stands, it is properly referenced. Wikipedia is not about WP:TRUTH, but what reliable sources say. It is not for us to question Cort's recollection. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 06:42, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
great stories.
now, if you could add reliable sources to your claims, you would be helping to create an accurate encyclopedia.
