Distances

[edit]

As this is a featured article and I received a warning before attempting an edit, thought it best to raise this here. My concern is over the distances from Manchester to Sheffield and Liverpool, both given as 35.0 miles in the Geography section. I thought we normally use "as the crow flies" straight line distances. If so, these are nearer to 31 miles for Liverpool and 33 miles for Sheffield, city centre to city centre as measured using Bing maps distance calculator tool. Perhaps someone would check/confirm? A further point, why have the geographic coordinates in the Geography section been placed on the University of Manchester rather than the city centre? Rupples (talk) 22:05, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Nickname missing - ‘The Capital Of The North’. Used very often by Manchester based businesses alongside ‘Second City’. Thanks. 2A02:C7C:9245:3E00:FD05:7A0E:F159:230A (talk) 08:08, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Done Have added under "Toponymy", may be better placed elsewhere. Not sure if it belongs in the lead section/ infobox. Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 12:07, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Though in all due respect if the ‘Second City’ nickname (something also claimed by Birmingham) then surely ‘Capital Of The North’ deserves to be in the nicknames section? 2A02:C7C:9245:3E00:6549:579B:846B:25D5 (talk) 18:19, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'd be tempted to remove "Mancs", or even "Second City". Martinevans123 (talk) 18:22, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
😂 Manchester - The City Of No Nicknames. 2A02:C7C:9245:3E00:6549:579B:846B:25D5 (talk) 18:29, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"Second City" is sourced (but disputed with Birmingham). "Mancs" is unsourced. Martinevans123 (talk) 19:16, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Though of course ‘Manc’ is short for Mancunian. I think ‘Capital Of The North’ is actually more deserving. 90.212.31.75 (talk) 07:14, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
