All the prefixes in this section are Greek except nona-, which is Latin. Why was nona- chosen for 9 by whoever's decision it was?? The true Greek term is [[Wiktionary:ennea-|ennea-] 66.245.125.240 00:24, 16 Sep 2004 (UTC)

undeca- is also of Latin derivation. The prefixes were chosen by IUPAC. I assume that they wanted to keep some ressemblance with the names of the "parent" alkanes, which give nonane and undecane. Physchim62 03:26, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)
