I would recommend tidying the coverage of the naming of the 17th/18th century wars making clear that the naming after British Monarchs is American usage.
- The War of the Grand Alliance (redirect from War of the League of Augsberg) = King William's War
- The War of the Spanish Succession = Queen Anne's War
- The War of the Austrian Succession (subsuming War of Jenkin's Ear) = King George's War
- The Seven Years War = The French and Indian War (King George II still being on the throne at the outbreak).
Finally, note that the North American aspect of all four wars are collectively called the French and Indian Wars (plural). My source is volume 2 of Isaac Asimov's history of North America.

- I don't understand your complaint. I think the text clearly says that the North American phase of this war is called King William's War. Americans call the part that occurred in Europe the War of the Grand Alliance, just like Britons do. Am I missing something? Are you claiming that Europeans don't call the North American phase of the war King William's War? It may be true, I don't know. --rmhermen
- My point was a general one relating to the cross referencing of pages in Wikipedia. I believe that I started out at the List of wars page where some of the above wars are resolved and some are not. Influenced by Asimov's history, I viewed these wars and their correspondence with European wars as a group. I suspect that I might more usefully have made the comment on another Talk Page. Now that I have registered as a user, I guess its up to me to act. I favour creating a new page French and Indian Wars with the above tabular correspondence, and links to entries for specifically European and North American wars. I will check back here for your feedback before acting. Alan Peakall 17:18 Oct 18, 2002 (UTC)
