User:TUF-KAT/List of genres of music by region
Appearance
Though some styles of music are known worldwide, most are particularly associated with a region, either corresponding to a country, part of a country, or multiple countries. This page lists the genres associated with each region, along with associated information on musical instruments and folk dances.
Each region will have the following information:
- Folk music: music primarily transmitted orally and without formal authorship or education
- Folk dance: forms of dance primarily transmitted orally and without formal authorship or education
- Instruments: musical instruments in common use and closely associated with the region's folk and/or popular music
- Popular music: music created for mass production and sale, generally by professional or semi-professional musicians
- Classical music: highly standardized and codified music with a well-documented history, generally taught and played formally
- Local scenes: music created in the region in a style of popular music
- See also:: music areas associated with the region; this can be either a music area that the region is contained within, or a music area that is contained within the region, and may also include closely related subjects like territories part of an external region but with close kinship to the region in question, or that region's music as it is present in another region; note also that a music area need not correspond exactly to any geographic region, and may even include completely non-contiguous regions (such as the Lusophone music area)
Note: Some items may be listed under more than one column.
