Welcome

[edit]

Hello Aaron Einstein and welcome to Wikipedia! Hope you like it here, and stick around.

Here are some tips to help you get started:

Good luck!

Hi! Are you from London? That's where I'm from...I see that you want to have some pictures of London on Wikipedia, which is a great idea. If I had a camera, there would be some already...oh well. Well, welcome to Wikipedia, and have fun editing! Adam Bishop 20:20, 21 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Unverified images

[edit]
  • Hi! Thanks for uploading the following image:

Image:Effects_of_improb_Drive.PNG

I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? (You can use {{gfdl}} if you release it under the GNU Free Documentation License, {{PD-self}} if you wish to release your own work to the public domain, {{fairuse}} if you claim fair use, etc.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know at my talk page where you got the images and I'll tag them for you. Thanks so much. Peter O. (Talk, automation script) 05:51, Dec 25, 2004 (UTC)

P.S. You can help tag other images at User:Yann/Untagged_Images. Thanks again.

    • Damn you wikipedians are really anal about those image tags :P. -Æ

Mtnbox

[edit]

The edits have cleaned up the code and simplified the infoboxes considerably. They have also standardised their appearance with the default skin. How exactly are they more difficult to read? ed g2stalk 00:07, 9 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. if you think the infobox class produce illegible results then we have a serious problem as it (or visually similar styles) is used on tens of thousands of pages.... ed g2stalk 00:12, 9 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
By "the different sections" I assume you mean the left and right columns. They are separated by a largish gap and the fact that the left column is bold. With tabular data it is not usual to put a colon after a column heading, as you would if it were a free-flowing list. Although the previous version, with the coloured column, was more clear in this respect, it doesn't mean the new version isn't, as it hasn't been a problem on all the other infoboxes it's been used on. ed g2stalk 00:20, 9 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Also in reply, the default skin in monobook.css. The infobox class is defined in common.css and is can be redefined in the other skins to keep the appearance consistent. ed g2stalk 00:22, 9 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed it is not policy, but then there is no written policy on how a box around an image should look, but when the software started using the "thumb tright" class on thumbnails, this became standard. The reason for changing it is that it looks competely out of place next to all the other infoboxes, navigational boxes, image boxes, menu boxes and document frame box. In-line css should only be used to assist layout. ed g2stalk 00:54, 9 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, change always takes getting used to :P. ed g2stalk 01:46, 9 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ugly Gray Template & Info boxes

[edit]

Don't let Ed push you around - there is no concensus to use ugly gray filled boxes everywhere in wikipedia. See also Wikipedia:Infobox standardisation which I put up for deletion 152.163.100.134 04:27, 13 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

User Categorisation

[edit]

You were listed on the Wikipedia:Wikipedians/Ontario page as living in or being associated with London, Ontario. As part of the Wikipedia:User categorisation project, these lists are being replaced with user categories. Image Tagging for Image:Ben_Rinnes.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Ben_Rinnes.jpg. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to indicate why we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies under Wikipedia's fair use guidelines, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. If you want the image to be deleted, tag it as {{db-unksource}}.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.

Hi

[edit]

Hi, I'm Dimitri from the Dutch language Wikipedia. I'm currently looking for people of about 14 to 18 years interested in politics, economy, education, business, culture or management. In March 2007 we started up a Dutch language site where we build a whole country, called Libertas. The site is named Wikistad, which means Wikicity in English. You can take a look by clicking here. Now, we're working on an English version after starting up a Romanian too. If you're interested, just come down here, you'll like it. You can become everything you want: from Prime Minister over businessman to taxi driver. Our country is named Lovia of the Kingdom of Lovia and is open to everybody. This is the URL: http://nation.wikia.com/ I'm looking forward to see you later, Dimitri. -DimiTalen 11:46, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:John H. Chapman.jpeg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 02:25, 11 December 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Remember the dot (talk) 02:25, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

File:Iqaluit from Joamie Hill.JPG and File:Apex Nunavut.JPG

[edit]

Just letting you know I moved them both over to Commons. Enter CBW, waits for audience applause, not a sausage. 22:27, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Iqaluitskyline.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Eeekster (talk) 02:02, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
