How to Be a Spy
[edit]The CIA is America's first line of defense in wars, especially against international terrorism. The CIA's mission is to protect the United States and its people. A wide range of diverse people are involved in the CIA, people with different talents and backgrounds play many different roles in the CIA, however spies tend to be the favored role. Click here for more information on what espionage is. Ever since 9/11 the CIA has had an even greater need for people with courage, creativity, common sense, and patriotism. They have an especially large need for people with language skills.
Requirements
[edit]- You have to be at least 18 to be employed full time by the CIA
- Most feild jobs require that you be no older than 35
- overseas officers, intelligence analysts, and other non-clerical positions require a college degree, preferably an advanced degree.
- You must be a U.S. citizen
Specific Jobs
[edit]- Operations Officer
- It is a covert field operative that gathers vital information that is needed to make important international policy decisions.
- It requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree
- An excellent academic record
- Strong communications skills
- Foreign travel experience
- Foreign language proficiency
- Prior residence overseas
- Military experience
- A background involving East Asian, Central Eurasian and Middle Eastern languages
- Degrees and experience in international business and economics and physical sciences
Opportunities For Students
[edit]- The CIA offers many programs for students in which they are able to participate in educational and practical work experiences that prepare students for the future. These positions also offer a salary and excellent benefits for the students. - The CIA also offers internships for undergraduates and graduates studies programs
- All benefits of permanant employees are also offered to interns
- The CIA does not provide housing but will assist students in finding a place to stay
Undergraduate and Graduate Student Interns
[edit]- Students either have the option of a one 6 month student internship or two 3 month student interships.
- The 6 month internship begins in either july or january and continues for 6 months, the student that chooses to paticipate in the two 3 month intership will be able to choose the dates of the 2 start time
- Students participating in the DO Student Intern Program will not receive college credits
- Interns will work in one of the DO's regional and transnational issues divisions
- Interns will assist intelligence reporting and the operations of the CIA's overseas stations.
- During the internship, interns may apply for the DO's Professional Trainee program and then qualify for the Clandestine Service Trainee program.
- The clandestine Service Trainee program prepares new graduates for careers with the CIA. It deals with clandestine careers and prepares students for that career path.
- Based on the results of the program interviews and the student's performance during the internship students could be offered a job right after graduation.
- However these internships are highly competitive, here are the requirments:
- Strong acedemic record- 3.0 GPA or better
- Foreign language skills
- Previous residency abroad
- Military experience
- Outstanding impersonal skills
- The ability to write accuratley and clearly
- A strong interest in foreign affairs
- A US citizen
- Must successfully complete polygraph and medical examinations and a background investigation
