Name
[edit]Couls somebody please add where on earth the name 'syndrome' came from for this character? Saccerzd 18:56, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
<shrug> It's the name Buddy announced. Why he thought it was appropriate would be pure speculation and therefore inappropriate for the main article. But since this is the talk page, I'll speculate that it probably arose out of Buddy's parents sending him to a shrink who referred to Buddy's love/hate of his idol as a "syndrome".

I found this interesting while watching 'The Incredibles' the other night. Someone probably picked up on it already. During Mr. Incredible's first encounter with Buddy in the movie he says something to the effect of "What is your name again? Brodie? No, Buddy!"
Very clever! The character Buddy/Syndrome is voiced by Jason Lee. Lee also played a character named Brodie in three Kevin Smith films. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.33.50.212 (talk) 16:34, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
Merge with "The Incredibles"
[edit]Is this extra page really necessary (considering that none of the other major characters have their own separate character pages)? Alot of the info is already on the main movie page anyway. Most of the extra stuff here is just a partial synopsis of the plot. Perhaps this could just be elaborated some more and be used a synopsis for the movie itself?
- I agree, the play-by-play of certain scenes is unnecessary. I say merge this info. --DropDeadGorgias (talk) 16:47, Apr 19, 2005 (UTC)
Forget it! DO NOT MERGE THIS ARTICLE WITH THE INCREDIBLES! Leave it be! I think it's all right that they have a whole page on Syndrome! If you're wondering why the rest of the characters don't have articles, why not create these articles? Scorpionman 20:59, 15 May 2005 (UTC)
Okay, thinking of beginning a "Characters from The Incredibles" page. I will probably take the info from Frozone, Elastigirl and Mirage and make those pages re-directs. This page is the longest of the character pages - should I merge the info into the "Characters" page, or just link here? Squidward2602 17:37, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
Two Syndromes?
[edit]Buddy used his skill with inventions to become a highly successful and wealthy weapons designer/merchant (developing schizophrenia and, as a consequence, a complete lack of conscience in the process) under the name of Syndrome, the second to use the name.
Who was the first? Thanos6 21:57, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
- There is a deleted scene in which the first Syndrome attacked Mr. Incredible and used him as a battering ram to wreck his own home. He also tried to abduct Violet while she was still in her infancy, but was immobilized in his own transfixation beam when Mr. Incredible placed a mirror between him and Helen (who had Violet in her arms). He was ultimately killed when the main gas line in the home went off and destroyed the home (Bob, Helen, and Vi, however, managed to escape just in time). 71.201.5.187 22:39, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
- Oh, THAT. Does that even count? That was from a first draft of the script when Syndrome was just a throwaway villain, and the main villain of the movie was Baron...something or other. I don't think he counts, does he? Thanos6 23:15, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
- Actually, Baron von Ruthless was just to be mentioned. The main villain was supposed to a man named Xerek, but Syndrome bested him in terms of popularity with the creators and took the role for himself. 71.201.5.187 11:09, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
- Right, I was confusing Baron von Ruthless with Xerek. So, anyway, the question is raised--does that deleted scene count? I don't think so. Thanos6 14:27, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

Height Issue
[edit]Where are we getting the information that Syndrome is 6'1" tall? I mean, even with the hair, he's shorter than Mirage, who is only slightly taller than Helen, who is allegedly 5'8". Is there some kind of Incredibles collectable trading card game with vital stats that I'm missing out on? Bezo 17:38, 20 May 2006 (UTC) There Are Alot of Things in here that are wrong, i'm making some adjustments.
FWIW, if this guy is barrel chested AND 6'1", then he's got to be at LEAST 240 lbs. At that height, 185 lbs would leave him as skinny, not even athletic. I'd say if he's 6'1", then in order to be barrel-chested, he's really got to be 250 lbs. At least. Does height even matter? Who cares? Why can't you just watch and enjoy the movie without speculation? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tar62800 (talk • contribs) 15:47, 18 October 2014 (UTC)
I remember reading somewhere that he's 5'7". 86.30.144.106 (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 21:51, 9 January 2015 (UTC)
Link Removal
[edit]I've removed the link to (http://syndromeclub.deviantart.com/). I don't feel it's an appropriate link for the following reasons:
- The page has 4 total artwork (2 drawings, 2 photos of the same item) - The page hasn't been updated since late 2004 (although a brief update has been posted) - The description of the link, "a Syndrome Fan Club", isn't accurate - this is a deviantart account.
Links like this are similar to LiveJournal groups, which I believe should not appear in an encyclopedia. However if someone can give good justification of why it should be reincluded, by all means please modify it. The link just seems a bit, well, empty and pointless. Meaganhanes 19:01, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
The article mentions a skewered version of the "Fly home Buddy, I work alone" events from Syndrome's point of view that is shown later in the film. I don't remember this.
- We are treated to his flashback, where Bomb Voyage is not present. He is not a factor in Mr. Incredible's actions, while in reality he was a decisive one. I changed the phrasing from "present" to "mentioned" to reflect your point, but it was changed back on the basis that it was a visual flashback. --Kizor 00:11, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
Still alive?
[edit]There's no evidence that Syndrome survived the jet explosion. The debris that struck the Parr home should have contained him, or we should have seen him flying off. There were no remains. Besides, the android copy could have been made before his death. Why the speculation that he's still alive? The creators have the Underminer if they're going to do a sequel, so there's really not much basis for this claim. Scorpionman 22:22, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
- Trust me on this. If he were still alive, then MasakoX and Vegeta3986 would have nothing. Sasuke9031 (talk) 03:00, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
Unnesseccary exaguration
[edit]Well, this has been happening a lot in many articles which is becoming quite irritating. I am of course refering to people jumping to conclusions when they add things to articles and exagurate things. What is this about Syndrome being a pervert just because he made a sexual innuedo? The movie needed to show that Symdrome acknowledged that they married and had children, and they needed to do it in his cocky sinister way. It would no have the same effect if he said "oh you had children". I fail altogether to see how he is a pervert just because he said "you got busy". That needs to be revised, and whoever keeps making these immature comments should be banned from the community. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 165.21.154.108 (talk) 07:36, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
I 100% agree, and that's what I've argued all along! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tar62800 (talk • contribs) 15:49, 18 October 2014 (UTC)
Kronos as mythological reference
[edit]If this has already been discussed in the past, I apologize, but I wasn't lurking around Wikipedia when this movie came out. Anyhoo, to the point.
Is it worth mentioning that Operation Kronos shares its name (albeit a variation of the spelling) with the mythological Greek Titan, Kronos? Kronos was overthrown by his son, Zeus, and the Titans were supplanted by the Olympian Gods. In much the same way, the ultimate goal of Operation Kronos was for Syndrome to eliminate the Golden Age Supers (Mr. Incredible, specifically) and portray himself as a hero. In fact, one could make the point that Buddy Pine looked to Mr. Incredible as a father figure.
Or would this be considered speculation, or original research? -- Son Goharotto (talk) 04:54, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:The-Incredibles-5.jpg
[edit]Image:The-Incredibles-5.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Likeness

Merge
[edit]Merge into movie page. No reason for all this excess fancruft to exist in any form. Lots42 (talk) 05:11, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
