[edit]About Carl Wirtz: in your short account of Wirtz astronomical work it is written that it is difficult to decide if he was aware of the cosmological implications of his result; please note the following paper from Wirtz: "Title: De Sitters Kosmologie und die Radialbewegungen der Spiralnebel Authors: Wirtz, C. Journal: Astronomische Nachrichten, volume 222, p.21 Publication Date: 10/1924 It is clear from the title that he was perfectly aware of the cosmological implications of his result and he proposed to interpretate the redshift as due to the action of the cosmological constant; Hubble knew this idea of Wirtz and proposed the same interpretation. What it is difficult, really difficult to understand is why Hubble is quoted as discoverer of the so-called Hubble-Law, wihle Wirtz discovered it and proposed the same cosmological explanation of Hubble.
