Founding date
[edit]Hi Yosemiter - There's a difference between purchasing an active franchise and moving into a new market, and purchasing the franchise agreement with the league which was used previously by a different organization. There's no continuity, different ownership, management and structure. I understand your point, but I think there's a difference between the two. The citation in the article mentions the purchase of the dormant franchise, but I'm not sure they is a continuous timeline. Add to that the fact that the franchise itself states that the organization began in 2002. When you look at other organizations which have moved, they keep the prior history (e.g. Arizona Cardinals, LA Dodgers), they don't list their organization date as their move to the new city. - @Onel5969: – It has been discussed many times on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Ice Hockey but the founded date always refers to the franchise license that is being used by a team (do not confuse a Franchise with a Team as they are distinctly different). Many franchises have been bought and sold between organizational and personal ownership but the the license carries the history of previous teams nonetheless. You are correct that the team was an expansion team, however the franchise has existed since 1971, whether active or inactive. This is how it has been considered for years and 100% of all other relocated/formerly dormant/sold NHL/AHL/ECHL franchises use the oldest date of the franchises existence not when the team organization was formed. It should be noted that if you don't revert it (or me) someone else would likely change it back to 1971 Yosemiter (talk) 05:19, 27 June 2015 (UTC)
