December 2007
[edit]The article states the capacity of the Moss Rose as 6,028. The club's official site states it as 6,335, and other sources quote varying figures. Does anyone know the correct figure?
Talking of such matters, the article gives 7,002 as the record Moss Rose attendance for games involving Macc. However, both Saga of the Silkmen and the News of the World Football Annual give the record as 9,003, vs. Winsford United in the Cheshire Cup, 14th Feb 1948. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.154.123.175 (talk) 00:13, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
Recent edits
[edit]Additions/changes in Macclesfield Town FC history (1907/09/11 and 1946), as well as list of Cheshire Senior Cup wins, are verifiable in contemporary newspaper reports, as well as in the definitive history of the club "Saga of the Silkmen" (Carnegie Publishing 2001).
No wins
[edit]As of 10/11/06, the club has gone 17 games in League Two this season without a win. Are they close to setting any sort of record yet, in terms of longest runs without a win from the start of a season?
According to the News of the World Football Annual, Newport County hold the record for the worst no-win start to a season, with 25 games in Div. 4 (4 wins, 21 defeats). Macc. are currently second in this league of infamy, as 16 is the next worst, shared by Hull City, Burnley, and Sheffield United.
Entry restructured.
To do list:
- Work needed on the 'History' to deal with links, highlighting etc.
- Biographies needed on George Abbey and Rob Bickerton.
- An account needed of the club history prior to the nineties.

Current Players
[edit]Might be an idea to include a "correct as of: (date)" above the player list, as in this article, to confirm the last time the list was updated, so that player transfers aren't missed.. Beaver Patrol 18:23, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. Intro
[edit]If you are going to delete information from the intro, please make sure that it is subsequently included into the main body of the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TimMassey (talk • contribs) 20:51, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
- That might as well be your job; you know this subject better than I do (I can't speak for the other editor). Removing the information from the lead is an improvement; adding it to its proper place would be another improvement. Thank you, Drmies (talk) 21:09, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
Also added to your talk page I was actually in the process of trimming this section to provide less detail than was there. I do not see the guide on Recentism gives a black and white answer here. The article has long held a section that Keith Alexander dies whilst manager of the clkub; indeed, this is one thing that makes the club notable. As for subsequent managers, once a permanent manager is announced, the mentions of Gary Simpson and Brian Horton would then be moved to the main body of the article, with a note of the current manager, and any other notable current-ish items — Preceding unsigned comment added by TimMassey (talk • contribs)
- "Less detail"--for the lead, that would be one sentence. The rest of the stuff will have to go somewhere else. We are not the news, that's one of the things that RECENTISM means. LEAD suggests that the lead summarizes the content of the article. Put that together (and throw in WP:NOTNEWS) and it's clear that one sentence in the lead is OK with additional information in the rest of the article. I left you an edit-war warning because I wasn't sure you realized what you were doing: continuing to revert other editors, who explained what the problem was and didn't vandalize the article. Thank you, Drmies (talk) 23:14, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
pre-WWII history
[edit]The Cheshire County League article says Macclesfield were twice champions in the 1930s, so clearly the post-WWII entry to the CCL was more like a renewal of an existing arrangement by a new legal entity than a new arrangement altogether, which is how it reads at present. I know it gets complicated with different legal entities but if the article is going to claim that the club harks back to 1874, then surely the history should cover the pre-WWII era as well? Even if it's just a basic outline of what leagues it was playing in. 86.31.22.254 (talk) 16:13, 2 November 2014 (UTC)

New team
[edit]I've started a discussion at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football/Archive_135#Macclesfield_teams about the current scenario and team rebrand. Please contribute there. Joseph2302 (talk) 13:40, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
- Consensus in that discussion was that Macclesfield Town F.C. article should remain, covering history, etc, up to its winding up. In due course, a new article about Macclesfield F.C. might be started once it is playing in the English football pyramid and has been reported by reliable sources, etc. Paul W (talk) 11:50, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
Fragmented lead
[edit]That first sentence sounds fragmented, feels too long. I did look at a rewrite, but... hmm, it still needs sorting. Govvy (talk) 22:51, 24 November 2020 (UTC)
- I have moved things around a little to, I hope, address your point, Govvy. Paul W (talk) 10:43, 25 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Paul W: It didn't seem fragmented however it didn't look technically right, I've adjusted the lead. Hope you're okay with that. Cheers. Govvy (talk) 11:57, 25 November 2020 (UTC)
- Made one very minor further tweak, but seems good to me now. Thanks. Paul W (talk) 16:17, 25 November 2020 (UTC)
