Opening
[edit]you are I'm having a difference of opinion with Anon 81.131.135.13 who doesn't think the three opening sentences of this article are much too POV. Every time I delete the sentences the Anon reverts. Here they are:
Automobiles of Italy, are amongst the fastest and finest in the world. Italian manufacturing is justly famous for its excellence and superiority. It has often been said that if God drove a car it would be Italian..
Also this person won't let me delete the blindingly obvious Several of these manufacturers have produced a number of models.
Can I have some opinions please on which of us is right? I can't discuss this directly with the Anon because he/she has not set up a Talk page - Adrian Pingstone 19:19, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- I've reverted now to the version of Arpingstone and posted a warning on the anon page. IMO, this is vandalism and would report it. For more information, see: Wikipedia:Dealing with vandalism. I hope some administrator will come along. --Eleassar777 19:46, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Italian automakers do have a certain reputation, but that opening is junk. The taunts in the edit summaries are just immature. -- Cyrius|✎ 21:28, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Yes, of course. --Eleassar777 21:53, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)hi
Vroom, vroom!
[edit]I agree that we can't have God driving an Italian car, but lighten up a little, please. The anon has edited the page exactly twice, to insert and then reinsert an obvious joke. Very regrettable, but hardly a horrible threat to Wikipedia. "Vandalism" charges and {{test2}} seem excessive (please read "What vandalism is not" on Wikipedia:Vandalism). What happened to {{test1}} and "Thank you for experimenting with Wikipedia"? That's what anons usually get as a first warning, even when they've inserted actually offensive content, as is hardly the case here.
Arpingstone and Eleassar777, if the anon and the page are causing you stress, it might be better to walk away, to take it off your watchlist. I'm putting it on mine, and will be glad to revert the anon if he should be back. As I said, we really can't have God driving an Italian car. As for you, anon, I lap you in my Volvo! VroooOOOM! Bishonen | Talk 11:12, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- As the original creator of the page, yes it is POV, and it was written very tongue in cheek following a joke on the subject with another editor. I had forgotten about it until now, and assumed it had been VfD'd months ago. I'm quite sure God drives a celestial chariot devoid of nationality plates, but as for the make of the popemobile I am less sure. I've no idea who the anon is or was, and frankly am not greatly interested, even though he/she does seem to have a sense of humour. Please don't overreact to what looks to me like a harmless laugh. Concentrate instead on some real trouble like the pornographic image that seems to be popping up everywhere at the moment, and the constant vandalism of the main page (where this pathetic little stub will sadly never be). Alternatively one of you could rewrite it to FA standard. Giano 11:56, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- I feel no stress and am not over-reacting. I simply want a first-class professional-sounding encyclopedia. I contribute to WP so as to work towards that goal. Simple, really!! - Adrian Pingstone 12:57, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)
