Image:Akhenaton.jpg

[edit]

I see you went through and gave tags to images that were untagged previously, which is a good thing. But I don;t get where you came up with the idea that Image:Akhenaton.jpg was PD. The original poster claims it is uncopyrighted, but then he claims that of everything he uploaded, largely under the incorrect belief that anything from a website that didn;t have a copyright notice on it is uncopyrighted. That's bad in iteself, but he actually provided a weblink to where he got it from this time (which is unual for him) and the page very clearly claims copyright on all contents. The photo is of a three-dimensional image, so the legal argument that recent photos of two-dimensional objects that are older than 100 years doesn't apply here. DreamGuy 04:31, Mar 21, 2005 (UTC)

I don't get this; the article's about Alfa Romeo 159. Should it be moved? Eixo 07:03, 8 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I don't really know much about cars, that's why I left it to you to decide what to do. If it is 159 then the page should be moved, if it's 158 then the page should be edited back to that. A quick internet search gives 2,340 for "158" and 112,000 for "159", so it seems the correct thing would be to move the page? Eixo 08:10, 8 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Auto infoboxes

[edit]

Thanks for adding the info boxes! It's nice to have another person who finds them useful. I made a few edits, but welcome your future contributions! In short, I moved the boxes to the top (they look better this way) and integrated any existing photo into the box itself. I also used "wagon" for the body style rather than SUV which is more of a market segment or class. Next, I used the non-breaking spaces with the proper units (L) for liters. And I removed any empty fields. And I've about given up on the "automobile series" junk - it's not useful really. Anyway, don't take this all as a negative - your contributions are welcomed and these articles would not have had an infobox if not for you! Come on over to Wikipedia:WikiProject Automobiles for more car stuff... --SFoskett 15:10, May 31, 2005 (UTC)

"Logoitis"?

[edit]

Hey man, what's that logo adding spree all about? :-) I don't know whether you got the (attempt at a sobering) message from my reverting one of those additions a couple of days ago ('twas an article on some piece of IBM hardware), with an edit summary text that in fact commended your adding a logo on the more general article (List of IBM products). Have you discussed the logo inclusion matter with other Wikipedians? (if not, let me point out what I intended to say in my abovementioned edit summary: IMO, logos on general articles and list articles are not only OK but great---an asset to WKP---but logos on each and every article connected to some company or organisation having a logo is a patently Bad Thing™; it just clutters up the article layouts). Please have no hard feelings, I just had to voice my opinion of genuine concern. --Wernher 00:44, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Thank you for diagnosing my "logoitis". I wasn't aware of any response from anyone, including yourself. I have not discussed the logos with other Wikipedians. There are no hard feelings. This is what Wikipedia is all about. In light of your opinion, I will now stop the "logo adding spree". —Vespristiano 00:55, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)
And to you: thanks for your lightning-fast response. :) I hope we'll be able to come to some kind of concensus in this matter---I honestly wouldn't like to 'overrule' other Wikipedians' contributions as a result of my expressing my meanings in an overly forceful way. Anyway, as I said above, I absolutely see the advantage of having the logos displayed in the list articles; it gives the lists a kind of 'instant recognition' look. Another good example is the List of Intel microprocessors one. I also have a suggestion that would let us add the admittedly nice 'logo factor' to many product articles without being intrusive. I'd make a case for including a small logo in the heading of some of the relevant 'list boxes' (implemented as templates); these two I think would be typical candidates for a one-liner logo*. --Wernher 01:28, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)
(* or two logos, actually; a Motorola one to the left and a Freescale one to the right---we only need to find the basic versions of the logos, i.e. the versions w/o blurbs attached... )
I agree with your suggestion. (I admit I haven't taken time to educate myself on Motorola and Freescale, but wouldn't using one logo or the other be better than using both?) By the way, I spent a month in Norway two years ago, and I was exceedingly impressed. —Vespristiano 01:44, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)
The reason I suggested using both logos for the Motorola chip listboxes was that 1) the industry knows these chips to have been developed and marketed by Motorola since the late 70s/early 80s and up to the spinoff of its semiconductor division into Freescale (a sad move, if you ask me...) and 2) now that the chips are sold by Freescale, the listbox should reflect this too. I think two smallish logos can be placed in the box's heading quite 'low key'-ish wrt layout. Let me have a go at it and then tell me what you think (just give me a some days to get it done; I should really go to bed now, it's 4am+ over here...).
BTW, cool to hear you've been to Norway. We do have a nice country, yes, particularly our steep mountains and deep fjords. A little chilly in the winter, though, but many of us even enjoy that; we go skiing a lot. I have lots of relatives in the U.S. (in FL, MD, upstate NY, OH, WI, CA) and am looking forward to go see them within the next couple of years. I have this grand plan to get a flight to D.C., go visit my cousin in MD, then go by train from D.C. to NY-->OH-->WI, and then to Chicago and fly back from there. :) --Wernher 02:05, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I have now included a small Intel logo in two templates. I'm not totally satisfied, however; I'd like the logo to be centered vertically, but that would probably require a small amount of image cropping to make the logo image itself be centered. --Wernher 05:07, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

XPLANE marked for deletion

[edit]

Hi there, I believe you are the person who originated an article in Wikipedia about XPLANE (Much appreciated!). In any event I wanted to let you know that the article has been flagged for deletion because the company is deemed "not notable." Since you are the originator of the article (please let me know if I am mistaken), I thought you might want to enter your thoughts on why you found XPLANE notable enough to include. I would appreciate your thoughts, either privately or publicly. My email is dgray@xplane.com and my Wikipedia username is dgray_xplane. Thanks. Dgray xplane 00:35, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikiproject Automobiles Notification

[edit]

Hi Vespristiano, you were on the list of members at WikiProject Automobiles and we are introducing a new way of listing members, as the old list was becoming too long. Our new method involves having all of our members in a category.

To add yourself to the category just add the userbox to your user page by putting {{Wiki Auto Project}} where you want the userbox. Alternatively if you don't like the userbox you can add [[Category:WikiProject Automobiles members|Vespristiano]] to your userpage.

If you no longer wish to be a member of the project, simply don't add the userbox or category, there's no pressure. Thanks for your time, James086Talk | Contribs 04:36, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Center for Responsible Nanotechnology, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. RJASE1 Talk 03:51, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Future Technologies Advisory Group, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (below the existing db tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. RJASE1 Talk 04:02, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Trion Operating System, by Android Mouse, another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Trion Operating System fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:

No assertion of notability. No citations or references. The only link is to the official website. The article has no context and is blatant spam.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Trion Operating System, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Trion Operating System itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 02:43, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Molecular Foundry

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Molecular Foundry requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later." You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. A page you created, EZQuest, has been tagged for deletion, as it meets one or more of the criteria for speedy deletion; specifically, it is obvious advertising or promotional material.

You are welcome to contribute content which complies with our content policies and any applicable inclusion guidelines. However, please do not simply re-create the page with the same content. You may also wish to read our introduction to editing and guide to writing your first article.

Thank you. CWii(Talk|Contribs) 21:56, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on List of EZQuest products, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because List of EZQuest products is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting List of EZQuest products, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Proposed deletion of IFile

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article IFile, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. UnitedStatesian (talk) 04:04, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Extensis requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Vespristiano! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 5 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 723 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

Hello, Vespristiano, and thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia!

I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you worked on, Sony LIBRIé EBR-1000EP, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

It helps to explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the Help Desk. Thanks again for contributing! -- Alan Liefting (talk) - 19:21, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject C-SPAN?

[edit]

Greetings fellow Wikipedia editor -

I am leaving you this note because I have reason to believe that you are interested in C-SPAN. (I may have made this assumption based on your C-SPAN user box, or perhaps for some other reason.) If this is not an interest of yours, please feel free to read no further and delete this message.

If you are in fact someone who is interested in C-SPAN, then let me put forward an idea that I have been kicking around for a while. What if we started a C-SPAN WikiProject?

The parameters of this (potential) project are up for discussion, but it could include some or all of the following (as well as things that may occur to you that have not occurred to me):

  • Creation, maintenance, and improvement of articles and lists directly related to C-SPAN and its programming.
  • Use of C-SPAN programming in citations for various topics
  • Inclusion of unique and targeted C-SPAN video links for various articles. (Doing this with respect for established guidelines at Wikipedia:External links.) (Example: If you are interested in the submarine USS Wyoming (SSBN-742), then having easy access to the eight hours of programming taped while a C-SPAN crew were guests on that submarine could also be of interest to you.)
  • Inclusion of (and possible further creation of) templated links such as {{C-SPAN|laurabush}}, that will easily take article readers to a link of all C-SPAN Video Library links for the person about whom the article is about.
  • What else?

I don't know exactly how far we may want to go, nor in what directions, but I do believe (as I have long noted on my user page) that C-SPAN and Wikipedia are both...

...fantastic vehicles for the free exchange of ideas and information in a non-sound-bite manner, and they both invite the participation of any parties (expert or amateur) who are interested in taking the time to absorb and/or contribute to the ideas and information offered. C-SPAN and Wikipedia go together like peanut butter and jelly, and I want to help give other Wiki users easy access to the great work that C-SPAN has done on a variety of topics.

Now, I should mention that I have never started a WikiProject before, and I do not know the best way to go about it. (Perhaps one of you do?) Let me offer one of my sandbox pages, User:KConWiki/sandbox/Wikiproject C-SPAN?, as a gathering area for comments until such time as we gather enough steam to start our own WikiProject page.

Thanks for reading this far, and I hope that you will give some consideration as to whether this is something we ought to attempt. Please feel free to pass this message on to others you know whom might be interested, and please let me know your thoughts and comments.
