How can he be born in 1986, and produce Dangerous in 1991? I dont think he was 5 years old when he did that ;-) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.208.154.183 (talk) 12:11, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

In the Intro: Marvin Gaye was most definitely not "Neo Soul", music journalists started using this term for D'Angelo, in the late 90's. Marvin Gaye is textbook (traditional) Soul.

Should "upstate" be "Uptown"?
[edit]The "Early life" section says: "His uncle, who owned the famed Harlem club The Rooftop, built a studio in the club in which Riley would spend most of his time while growing up. By 14, upstate New York rappers began making music to his tracks."
I don't know for sure, but I suspect that "upstate" might be mistaken. Harlem, where it says he spent most of his time, is in "Uptown" New York (City), and is anywhere from "kinda far" to "very far" from anything that's considered "Upstate" New York (State). I am guessing that the rappers referred to might have been from Harlem or other nearby Uptown neighborhoods, not from Schenectady or Buffalo or other Upstate communities. Again, I don't know for sure, so I am not going to make the change, but I thought this potential mistake might deserve to be brought to the attention of people who might know. - @Rwv37 it's UPTOWN.......I'm from buffalo,NY that's upstate N.Y. Extremely far from harlem. I'm sure it's "uptown". 2601:C4:100:ABC0:99DB:3F2B:35D:B07B (talk) 10:47, 28 August 2022 (UTC)
- To be clear, I know that Harlem is not upstate and that Buffalo is not uptown (that's what I said, in fact). The issue is that, while "uptown" sure seems to make more sense because of that given the context, it's nonetheless not 100% clear that "uptown" is correct and "upstate" is incorrect: It is at least conceivable that the people who began making music to his tracks were *not* from Harlem or other uptown locations, but rather from Buffalo or other upstate locations. The fact that he spent most of his time uptown carries a pretty strong implication that the people who began making music to his tracks were also uptown, but it's not a certainty. So, I was (and, I guess, still am) asking for someone who can point to a reliable source that the people making music to his tracks were uptown - I was *not* asking for someone who can say that Harlem is uptown.
