Edits
[edit]The edits from 213.78.88.220 are me, b.t.w.
- Moved some sections around -- separated out the history from the description
- Created a new page for the author's, and linked to that
- Added a section on how to get started in windowmaker, for anyone looking at a default linux distro and wondering how to run it, or how to use it
- Added a few useful programs that are pretty-much part of WindowMaker, such as configuration programs

Images
[edit]There are two problems with this article:
- It has way more images than necessary, as is, they only cluter the article and detract from the text.
- It displays horribly in Mozilla, some of the images are misaligned and overlap text. --Hetar 02:04, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
Status?
[edit]Does anybody know the status of windowmaker?
There has not been an update in over a year now, and the mailing lists(or at least the online archives of them) appear to be down too. I'd really hate it if development on windowmaker has halted.... Liquidtenmillion 03:55, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- They had some server problems back then. Meanwhile given the project's goals there's not much more to develop. The FreeBSD port is steadily maintained, the latest update was less than a month ago.[1] Gwen Gale (talk) 11:31, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- I think it's fair to say that the (Linux) project is dead. The source download ftp links on the project homepage don't work, and the sources don't compile with gcc4. Anonymous CVS access is down, and the mailing lists are broken. The last stable release is more than three years old. This is a dead project, and it should be mentioned in the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.2.172.29 (talk) 07:32, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
- Needs a citation from a published source. Gwen Gale (talk) 07:42, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Also note this post from less than 3 months ago on their website, http://www.windowmaker.info/:
- windowmaker.info Back Online

- windowmaker.info has been brought online as of early July, 2008. We are currently working on reimplementing the site in a more modern, safe fashion, while at the same time restoring all services required for development and communication. With that said, we are working very hard to revitalize Window Maker's presence on X Window (and perhaps beyond) desktops. With this new focus, we can now truly assert that Window Maker will be resuming active development very soon. We expect to once again provide the de-facto minimalist yet extremely functional window manager to the world.
Hence, whatever goes into the article about this must be reliably sourced. Gwen Gale (talk) 07:45, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
I've added a note about the above to the article. Gwen Gale (talk) 07:58, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
Wprefs
[edit]Is it true that Wprefs is copyrighted and not GPL? --AndersL 06:53, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
Software can be copyrighted and GPLed, and it does appear to be so. However, the graphical artwork isn't, according to this page, but it is released under the OpenContent License, --Cam.turn 04:42, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Windowmaker application menu.png
[edit]Image:Windowmaker application menu.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

December 2007
[edit]I added some history, lots of detail, info on a few more closely related apps, references, cleanup and so on. Gwen Gale (talk) 11:34, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Overview
[edit]The last sentence of the first paragraph reads:
Owing to its NeXTstepish design Window Maker shares a few fleeting, superficial similarities [...] with the GUI of Apple Inc's Mac OS X
Besides the presence of a Dock, I don't see any left. Therefore I would like to just delete that sentence. --85.177.195.187 (talk) 08:17, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
- Now only brings up the dock. Gwen Gale (talk) 10:05, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
Quality issues
[edit]Would it be possible and appropriate to mention politely somewhere that Window Maker is pretty outdated and generally rubbish? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.203.82.226 (talk) 13:50, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
- See Wikipedia:Describing points of view. Please keep in mind, this site is not meant as a forum for user opinions, but rather, as a gathering of content drawn from published sources of the reliable kind, verifiable by the reader. Gwen Gale (talk) 14:43, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
